Joe wrote and directed Trance for Sky Pictures in 2001 and co-wrote the version filmed by Danny Boyle in 2013.
He has created, written and directed a number of TV series including Ultraviolet starring Idris Elba for Channel 4.He wrote two episodes of BBC cult hit This Life, which won a Writers’ Guild award for the script team in 97. He directed three episodes including The Secret of My Excess for which Daniela Nardini won a BAFTA. Joe was the only contributor to write and direct on the series. His latest 3 part TV series is The Replacement for the BBC.
Joe’s first short as writer/director I’m A Feminist Myself screened at the London and Edinburgh Film Festivals 92-93. His second, Latin For A Dark Room written by Scottish Poet Laureate Liz Lochhead was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA and selected for best of the Edinburgh Film Festival in 94. Lead Siobhan Redmond won a Scottish BAFTA.
He directed five episodes of the BAFTA award-winning first season of Doctor Who for which he was nominated for a directing BAFTA in 2005.
He has written scripts for Stefan Arndt; Warner Brothers and Disney Studios.
